Hi! I’m Amanda.
................
I love seeing weary parents come to life again.
Â
With two Duke degrees, countless academic papers, and a Masters in Theology under my belt, it seemed I was on a steady path. But in 2020, when my son went into severe autistic burnout, and I descended into my own breakdown, everything in my life changed. I reworked my parenting approach and my self-care rhythms based around radical acceptance. From this experience, the low demand approach was born.
I’m a late diagnosed autistic adult, and very proud of it. I’m terrible at small talk; I never leave a party gracefully.
My soul comes alive in deep places, deep in nature, deep in contemplation, deep in conversation. I treasure solitude and feel fully alive while woodworking, doing yoga, walking at the beach, and snuggling my kids.
I am ready to help you take your next steps on your parenting journey.
“Our struggling children need us to trust them. They need us to see them. They need us to release our projections and expectations -- and the hopes and dreams we’ve held onto. They need us to accept them, right where they are.”
―Â
Parenting is Political
My work is rooted in the deep belief that parenting is both political and revolutionary. Raising children is an act of world-building—a daily choice to shape a future that reflects our values.Â
Â
These are mine: I am fiercely and unapologetically LGBTQIA+ affirming. I stand with trans kids and trans adults every single day of the year—not just when it’s convenient. I welcome and celebrate every family, in every form. Love and care are what make a family, and every way of showing up in partnership and parenthood deserves dignity and respect.
Â
I believe in the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion—not as buzzwords, but as a lifelong commitment. I compassionately interrogate my own race, culture, and privilege and how they shape my parenting, my perspective, and the spaces I create. I actively create spaces for you to safely share the racial, cultural, and economic realities of your own complex lived experience.
Â
Parenting is not one-size-fits-all, nor is it politically neutral. To parent with intention is to imagine and create a more just, expansive, and compassionate world.
